Full story

Dexcom stopped manufacturing the Dexcom G6 CGM System after July 1, 2026, according to the company's G6 transition page.[1] The page says G6 supplies may stay on pharmacy and distributor shelves for a while after that date, but Dexcom "cannot guarantee availability."[1] Dexcom recommends that G6 users work with their doctor to move to Dexcom G7 or Dexcom G7 15 Day.[1]

The transition page is a living web page with no publication date. We read it on October 15, 2026, and this post reports what it said that day. We did not find a dated Dexcom source for when the company first announced the July 1 date, so we don't give one here.

What Dexcom said about the end of the G6

In a question-and-answer section, Dexcom wrote that "the Dexcom G6 will be manufactured until July 1, 2026."[1] It gave one reason. Phasing out the G6, the company said, lets it focus on "the next generation of CGM technology, including the new Dexcom G7 15 Day."[1]

The same answer repeats the supply caveat. Pharmacies and medical distributors may still have G6 supplies for a period after July 1, but Dexcom said it could not guarantee that.[1] The page asked users to upgrade "by July 2026" to keep their Dexcom supplies and support uninterrupted.[1]

Getting a G7 or G7 15 Day sensor

Moving to a newer sensor starts with a prescription. Dexcom's page says people who pick up G6 supplies at a pharmacy should speak with their doctor about a new Dexcom prescription.[1] People who get G6 supplies from a distributor are told to contact that distributor instead.[1]

The page splits the two newer sensors by age. Dexcom describes G7 15 Day as designed for adults 18 and older, and says G7 remains its system for patients under 18.[1] It also says it will keep manufacturing and supporting the 10-day Dexcom G7 sensor.[1]

Apps, receivers and support

Phone users have one extra step. If you use the Dexcom G6 app, Dexcom says you will need to download the Dexcom G7 app when you apply the new sensor, and that your account data will transfer to the new app.[1] Receivers vary. The page says the Dexcom G6 receiver it pictures can be updated to work with Dexcom G7 15 Day, while users of the Dexcom G6 Touchscreen Receiver will need a new one.[1]

Support for the G6 did not end with manufacturing. Dexcom said it "will continue to provide technical support for the app and any unexpired Dexcom G6 supplies within their warranty period."[1] It still recommends upgrading "to ensure an uninterrupted connection."[1]

Pumps that use G6 sensors

Dexcom's page has a separate answer for people who pair a G6 sensor with an insulin pump, which it groups under automated insulin delivery (AID) systems.[1] It names four: Omnipod 5, Tandem t:slim X2, Tandem Mobi and the iLet Bionic Pancreas.[1] It says remaining G6 sensors will keep connecting to them, and asks users to "use your remaining Dexcom G6 sensors with your connected pump before upgrading."[1] For pump compatibility with the newer sensors, the page points readers to Dexcom's own FAQs.[1]

What this means for you

Dexcom's page lists these points for G6 users:[1]

  • Remaining supplies may be available through pharmacies or distributors for a time, without a guarantee.
  • Dexcom recommends upgrading to Dexcom G7 or Dexcom G7 15 Day, which requires a new prescription or a call to your distributor.
  • G6 app users need the Dexcom G7 app for the new sensor.
  • Technical support continues for unexpired G6 supplies within their warranty period.
  • Remaining G6 sensors still connect to Omnipod 5, Tandem t:slim X2, Tandem Mobi and the iLet Bionic Pancreas.
